Portland "drafts" at No. 36
Portland took Gabriele Procida from Italy with the No. 36 pick, but not really. The selection is heading to Detroit as part of the package for Jerami Grant. The Blazers also received the No. 46 pick from Detroit, so the actually choice is coming up soon.
Instead, Portland traded the No. 46 spot to Denver for a 2024 second round pick, according to Denver Post reporter Mike Singer. Ismael Kamagate was the selection.
First round complete
Oklahoma City, with the No. 30 pick reportedly heading to Denver, take Peyton Watson to close out the first round.
Portland GM Joe Cronin is set to talk to the media following the completion of the draft. No. 7 pick Shaedon Sharpe will wear No. 17 for the Blazers.
First round trades keep coming
Minnesota's pick at No. 19 is reportedly heading to Memphis, which was Jake LaRavia from Wake Forest. Minnesota gets picks No. 22 and 29 in return.
Philadelphia is trading its No. 23 pick David Roddy from Colorado State to Memphis along with Danny Green. In return, the Grizzlies send DeAnthony Melton to the 76ers.
Kemba Walker, heading to Detroit, is reportedly set to have his contract bought out and become a free agent.
Lottery picks all taken
No. 8 was Dyson Daniels out of the NBA G League Ignite to New Orleans. San Antonio took Jeremy Sochan out of Baylor next with Wisconsin's Johnny Davis going No. 10 to Washington.
Filling out the lottery picks were No. 11 Ousmane Dieng (reportedly heading to OKC), Jalen Williams from Santa Clara at No. 12 to OKC, Jalen Duren from Memphis at No. 13 to Charlotte (reportedly heading to Detroit) and No. 14 was Ochai Agbaji from Kansas to Cleveland.
Two trades on the way
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that New York is sending the No. 11 pick to Oklahoma City, which the Knicks took Ousmane Dieng out of New Zealand with.
Woj also reported that Detroit is sending the 2025 Milwaukee first round pick that it received from Portland in the trade for Jerami Grant, to Charlotte. Detroit is also getting Jalen Duren technically from the Knicks as New York traded with Charlotte first for the Memphis big man, and is also sending guard Kemba Walker to Detroit in the deal.
Portland takes Sharpe at No. 7
Portland has been rumored to be shopping the No. 7 pick, and still can, but the Blazers went with Kentucky guard/forward Shaedon Sharpe. The 6-foot-6 player didn't play last year at Kentucky after he reclassified in high school to join the Wildcats in January. However, he never saw the court and came into the draft as a big question mark with all of his significant tape coming at the high school level.
Top three go somewhat as expected
Orlando pulled a fast one on the league and selected Duke forward Paolo Banchero with the No. 1 overall pick. The Magic were reported to be deciding between Jabari Smith Jr. and Chet Holmgren.
Oklahoma City still got their guy in Gonzaga's 7-foot forward Holmgren. The Thunder have eyed him throughout the offseason in need of a center-forward spot.
That left Auburn forward Smith Jr. who quickly went No. 3 to Houston to pair with last year's pick of guard Jalen Green.
Sacramento kept the expected picks coming, going with Iowa forward Keegan Murray at No. 4. The Kings have been linked to potential trades of the No. 4 pick however, so Murray could be on the move but seems unlikely.
The best guard in the draft in Purdue's Jaden Ivey went No. 5 to the Detroit Pistons, who traded forward Jerami Grant on Wednesday to Portland with four Portland picks going east.
Bennedict Mathurin went No. 6 to Indiana, setting up Portland with the No. 7 pick.
