March 16, 1945 – February 11, 2023 - Beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend, Lynn Marie (Nieuwlandt) Reynolds passed away at the age of 77, on February 11, 2023.
Lynn was born on March 16, 1945 to Walter and Winifred Nieuwlandt in Whittier, California, where she grew up with her five brothers and sisters. Though she lived far away from them nearly all her life, her siblings were always a source of strength and joy for her. After graduating high school – with an all-night party at Disneyland – Lynn attended UCLA, where she met Jim Reynolds. They soon married and moved to the Midwest, where she worked in order to put her husband through law school, and they had two children; Jim Jr. and Josh.
The family moved to Barrington, Rhode Island in 1974, where Lynn anchored the neighborhood; hosting Thanksgiving and July 4th parties, block parties, orchestrating neighborhood caroling sessions and Christmas plays by the children. She delighted in gardening, cooking, and creating a home for her family and all those she knew.
The family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1982, where they had a third child – Ty – and Lynn’s green thumb continued expanding, eventually spending her days in acres of gardens on their ranch in Estacada, Oregon. Lynn’s penchant for creating homes and gardens would be a life-long passion. She made 11 houses into homes, remodeling each of them along the way, and was moving into a 12th when she passed away.
In an act of quiet courage for someone who’d never lived alone in her life, Lynn struck out on her own at the turn of the century. Residing in Lake Oswego, she spent time with the families of two of her children and many hours reading, gardening, and playing bridge with her long-time girlfriends. She traveled as often as she could to see her son, Ty, and his family in Atlanta.
Lynn is survived by her three children, two daughters-in-law; six grandchildren; and four siblings. She will forever be remembered by them and her friends for her patient kindness to all, her ready giggle, her delight in the company of her family and friends, and her inclination to bestow her unconditional love.
A celebration of her life will be held amidst the spring bloom, at 11am on May 26, 2023 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Portland, Oregon.
